Let's maintain control, familiy!

The holidays can be a time of great enjoyment and family fun, but they can also intensify emotions between family . Some families experience their biggest arguments during the holidays, and holidays such as Christmas and New Years can cause stress for a variety of reasons. It is smart to have a game plan if your family tends to get stressed out during New Years Eve or New Years Day so that you can all maintain a happy vibe while you celebrate.

Keep Stressful Topics off the Table

Sometimes when a family member has had a few celebratory cocktails, they may feel like they have more ease with talking to another family member. Especially if it is a topic that has concerned the parent or if the child feels as though they want to address something that has upset them. Try to keep intense conversations to a minimal or forget them all together during the first day of the year.

Get Outdoors

Sometimes New Years Day includes lounging around a lot. Get your family outdoors for some fun and play touch football, soccer or if you have snow in your area of the world, go sledding. Children need to be active (and adults too!) so enjoy some genuine family time outside with them.

If a Problem Occurs…..

If family argue on New Years Day it is best to change the pace and tone. Break up the argument, let everyone cool off, and get onto doing something productive together. Ideas such as cooking, board games, outdoor fun, and crafts can all be a great way to re-connect after there has been an issue.

Be Grateful and Appreciative

New Years Day is the perfect day to be grateful for our families. People tend to think of Thanksgiving as the only day to express thanks, but it is nice if it is ed every time family comes together. Ask your family to write something nice about family and then read them all out for everyone to hear.

What do you do when emotions run high in your family during the holidays? Let us know!
